Now is the perfect time to remove all the grime and gunk off the windows from the winter months. Removing the build-up of dirt and grime will help more light to enter your home. Why not try mixing up your own solution or buy one over the counter. Things that you may need to do this job.
- White vinegar.
- Some washing up liquid.
- Microfibre clothes or paper towels.
Mix half of pint of water with around 80mls of white vinegar and a few drops of washing up liquid. Wash the windows with a microfibre cloth. Once you have removed all the dirt and grime from the windows rinse it down with some fresh water. Dry the windows using microfibre cloths or paper towels for a streak-free finish. Its always best to carry out this job on a dull day, as the sun can leave streak marks.
Squeaky Doors Quick Fix
A squeaky internal or external door can become really annoying. You can get this sorted very quickly. To do this you will need the following items.
- Kitchen Towel or Microfibre cloth.
First, you will need to spray some of the WD-40 onto the doors hinges, using kitchen roll or cloth to make sure the WD-40 doesn’t drip onto the floor. As you spray the WD-40 onto the door hinge, move the door open and closed to all the liquid to get into all the little gaps. This should only be really used on internal doors as WD-40 can cause damaged to uPVC.
How to Hang A Picture
Make your home look more stylish by adding pictures to the house. You will need some of the following to do the job.
- Nails and picture hooks.
- Hammer, or rubber mallet.
- Spirit level.
You need to first mark out where you want to put the picture, mark a spot with a pencil where you wish to put the nail. Tap the nail into the wall using a hammer, hang up your favorite picture. Additionally, use the spirit level to make sure your picture is nice and straight.
How to Install a Lock on a Bathroom Door
Installing a lock always comes down to measuring. You need to make sure it is measured correctly before attaching any lock fittings. To do this job you will need some of the following items.
- Screw Driver.
- Door Lock.
Start off by placing the door lock on your door, draw around where you want the lock to be installed as well as where the screws will need to go. Make sure that the whole lock is level. Now you will want to drill in some small pilot holes for installing the screws. Furthermore, screw and attach the lock part to the door using the pilot holes.
Line up the door lock part that will sit on the door frame, drill some more pilot holes for this part. Repeat the same process as above and attach the rest of the locking kit.
How To Install A Curtain Rail
Installing a curtain rail can be very time consuming, as part of the installation requires a lot of measuring. Furthermore, you will need to double check your work to make sure the measurements are spot on. For installing a curtain rail you will need some of the following items.
- Curtain rail.
- Tape Measure.
- Spirit Level.
- Screws and Plugs
- Ladder or Step Ladder
Start by measuring the points in which you would like to attach the curtain rail brackets. Mark the points out with a pencil. Before you begin any drilling, make sure that all the brackets are spaced out. Furthermore, do some quick checks to make sure nothing will become damaged such as pipes and wires. You will also need to check the brackets are all level. If the brackets are not level the rail will not be hanging straight.
Once you are ready to carry out this task, drill the holes for the brackets and install the screw plugs. Now you can fully installed the rail brackets by screwing them to the wall and hang your curtain rail.
How to Paint the Ceiling
With some ceilings being larger than others, size will depend on the time it will take to paint your ceiling. However, once preparations are complete, the painting part is a simple task to do. For the following job, you need the following items.
- Sheets or Cloths.
- Paint Rollers.
- A Long Handled Paint Roller.
Before starting to paint your ceiling you will need to make sure that items in your room are covered using sheets and cloth. Once you have prepared the floor and covered up your belongings its now time to start painting the ceiling. How To Bleed Your Radiators
Every now and again our radiators require bleeding. Because air from our central heating systems can get trapped and make them less effective. One way to fix this issue is by bleeding the radiators every few months. To bleed your radiators you are going to need the following items.
- Towels or cloths.
- Radiator Bleeding Key or Flat Head Screw Driver.
First, find the bolt on the corner of the radiator, use the bleeding key to slowly unscrew the bolt. If any air is in the system you will hear it come out. However, if there is no air in the system you will notice water will come out of your radiator instead. Make sure you use the towel by wrapping it around the radiator to catch any leaks of water.
How To Fill Picture Holes In Your Wall
Dents, as well as small holes in your walls, can be very unsightly. Why not spend a few minutes filling these holes in and smooth them off for when you next decorate. For this job, you will need the following tools.
- A wall filling product.
- Sandpaper different grains.
Apply a small amount of the filler onto your spatula and carefully press the product into the hole you wish to fill. Do this a few times until the hole is completely filled. Once it has dried it is now ready for smoothing out. Take your sandpaper and slowly sand down the filler until it is flush with the wall. As a result, this will ensure a smooth finish against the wall. Once complete feel free to decorate over it.
