Should You Build Or Move?

When you buy a home, you will consider the space you need, often buying a home with enough or extra bedrooms.

However, circumstances change and you may need an extra room or end up with too much room. Hence, you can either move property, extend and build on to your home or power through. Powering through is usually a short-term solution, so people tend to move or extend.

Move Home

Moving home is one of life’s many challenges. It can be difficult, stressful and a hassle. However, it may be the better choice when you are in a sticky situation.

One benefit of moving home is the fresh start element. A house move offers you the chance to find your ideal home or to move to a new area. You may find a larger garden or move closer to family and local amenities.

Moving home may be less advantageous given that you have to sell your current home. This can be stressful and costly as you have to advertise it with an estate agent and carry out house viewings. You will also have to deal with the legal side and stamp duties. Not to mention actually moving and dealing with mortgage repayments!

Build and Extend

Instead of moving, you could extend your home. Some people extend on the ground floor at the back. Conservatories for bungalows are a great idea. Your bungalow conservatory can be a brick conservatory or a glass lean-to.

Other people add a porch to the front. Check out our double glazed porches here. We can supply and fit an open porch, composite porch and brick porch. Alternatively, we can provide porch doors too.

However, it may be beneficial for you to extend above the garage if you have space!

When you have chosen where you would like your extension, you need to find out if you have permission. Get in touch with your local council to see if they will approve the work. An architect or approved company can then draw up the plans and submit them to the council for planning permission or building regulation approval. Please note – these services will incur a fee.

If the work is approved, you can begin your project. You may want to go down the DIY route and have a go yourself. However, it is probably easier for you to hire a professional!
