What Home Improvements Can I Do Over Winter?

What Kind of Home Improvements Can I Do During The Winter?

Home improvements are normally done during the spring and summer time. Because of spring and summer having longer periods of daylight we tend to play ahead. However, there is a wide range of home improvements that can be done during the winter months.

In this article, we have done some research for you to find the best home improvements that you can carry out during this time of the year. As the storm is currently hitting the UK know as the Beast from the East. You can try some of these home improvement jobs.

Paint a Room

Painting the inside of your house doesn’t require the weather to be good or bad. It could be raining, snowing, or hailing. Whether you are just touching up the walls or going for a colour change. Get some rollers and paint brushes and get to work.

Even though the room can become very cold. Paints these days contain all sorts of chemicals and additives to prevent them going strange and drying unevenly on your walls. Sometimes warming the paint up near a radiator can help to prevent uneven drying on the walls.

Laying a New Carpet

Laying a brand new carpet for the first time or renovating an old carpet can help to keep the home warm and also revive the appearance of the room. Please ensure that the new carpet is well fitted to benefit from the insulation of heat and sound.

Windows

Have you experienced drafts coming from your windows? these are some cheaper choices to help reduce heat loss and help to keep your home warm during the winter months. Rubber window strips can be placed on the edge of your windows to reduce cold drafts. Furthermore, these can be colour matched to blend with your frame of the windows. Insulation film can be placed over the window glass to add an extra layer of heat loss protection.

Curtains will not only just block out light during the day but at night they can act as a great window insulator. This is a great home improvement opportunity to replace or install brand new curtains. Of course, the best course of action would be to have your windows replaced.

Install Loft Insulation

Loft insulation can be carried out at any time of the year, but it’s better to have it done sooner rather than later. Loft insulation has many benefits of keeping heat in your home and helping to prevent heat loss through the roof. When the weather is back and it is snowing you can see which roofs have loft insulation. As roofs with loft insulation tend to have no snow due to the heat melting it away.

Wall Fixtures

This is one of the easiest home improvement tasks to carry out. Install and renew old doorknobs, towel hooks, showerheads, taps, cupboards, coat hooks and much more. A great way to spruce up any home.
