Choosing Sofa Materials

April 18, 2023admin

The sofa is a place to relax, spend time with family or watch television.

Other than your bed, there may not be another piece of furniture that gets used as much. Hence, it is important that you find the right sofa in style and material.

This blog will look at what you need to consider when choosing a new sofa. Sofas usually aren’t made to your specifications, and they usually cannot be returned. Hence, you need to make the right decision the first time.

A Fabric Sofa

Once you know what size you need, you will have to choose what material you want your sofa to be. A fabric sofa is available in lots of colours. Hence, you have greater control over your choice. The sofa can then fit in with your aesthetic.

Fabric is often considered more comfortable than leather. It is not subject to temperature change like a leather sofa is. Leather is also quite hard, to begin with, and can take months to soften and become more comfortable. Moreover, leather is also slippery!

However, the fabric is more susceptible to stains, especially if you opt for a light colour. Hence, the fabric may be harder to clean. You can remove the cushion covers and machine wash them though, which is a benefit.

Leather

Specific couch styles, such as the Chesterfield, are usually only available in leather. Hence, you may need to choose a leather couch for practical reasons.

Leather looks more traditional and is long-lasting. A piece of furniture such as this is usually a long-term investment, meaning leather may be more suitable.

Furthermore, it is durable and isn’t prone to scratches or hair collecting on it. They are easy to maintain and require a wipe down with a damp cloth every so often. Moreover, they can be treated with creams to be kept looking like new.
