How Does Condensation Happen?

Condensation is a build-up from water vapour in the air in our homes that cannot escape so it builds upon the inside of our windows. If one side of the window is warm and one side is cold, the moisture will be deposited as a liquid. Sometimes this can be due to the lack of thermal insulation or a poor heating system.

Tips To Prevent Condensation?

There are many ways to reduce the build-up of condensation on your windows

  • When running a hot bath or shower, try opening the bathroom window a little to allow the heat to escape. This will help to prevent condensation from building up on your bathroom windows.
  • Avoid blocking your windows with furniture, for example, sofas and cupboards. Allow space for the air to circulate around the room and help prevent condensation.
  • If you cooking or boiling food in the kitchen. Try to use pan lids when boiling, this will help prevent the steam from escaping. Steam can cause a build-up of condensation on kitchen windows if you have a window opener in your kitchen, try opening the window too.
  • Replacing old windows with energy-efficient double glazing will help to get to reduce and remove any risk of inside condensation and give your home a higher level of energy efficiency.
