Treecycle for 2023

Whether you opted for a showstopping real Christmas tree, a garland, a table piece or a wreath, be sure to treecycle this year.

Instead of your firry festive friend going to waste, make the most of it and recycle, or treecycle as we’re calling it.

Replant

If you have some garden space, why not repot your tree and move it outside so it can live on at your home? Make sure the roots are still attached so it can grow bigger and better for next year – and make it an outside spectacle. Therefore, drape some lights or hang some baubles and make it a permanent feature each Christmas.

Shred to treecycle

Have you ever heard of mulch? No? Us neither. Mulch describes what is made if you shred your tree. You can spread this by-product across your garden to enrich the soil and help out the local wildlife. Furthermore, mulch creates a cosy home for insects!

But, if shredding isn’t an option, why not donate your tree to a local garden centre? Moreover, they will shred the tree and use its wood chippings or create soil.

Get crafty

Upcycle your tree and use its wood to create coasters, decorations or other ornaments. Furthermore, these can be great as homeware for yourself or gifts for your loved ones – and a great way to keep the kids entertained after the festive period is over.

Keep hold of any loose pine needles and pop them in a bag or sachet. Hang them around your home to keep the scent alive, or add the needles to a bottle of water and spritz it in each room!

Donate your tree

If the above sounds like too much hassle and hard work, consider donating your tree to a local garden centre or farm. Moreover, take your tree to a local recycling centre to see if they can help you dispose of it with the environment in mind!
