Is Your Home Ready For Winter?

Check Your Home Before Winter Comes

Keeping your home warm during the winter months can be a real challenge. Here is a list of our tips on making your home more energy-efficient this winter. Keep the heat in and the cold out.

As temperatures become lower and the leaves start to fall on the trees, do not forget to prepare your home and get it ready for the cold winter months.

Keep The Hot In And The Cold Out

First off the checklist is to make sure that your heating system is fully operational. Now that your heating system is working, you will need to make sure that it does not escape. Ensure to check all of the seals around your windows and doors. If you find any broken seals, we would recommend you have them replaced as soon as possible.

Heat can escape from single glazing and some double glazed windows installed before 2005. If you think this may be happening to your home, contact a professional window fitting company to discuss replacing your old windows. It may be time to consider double or triple glazing for your home.

It is crucial to ensure that your home has adequate ventilation to keep all living areas healthy. Sufficient ventilation will help to prevent the build-ups of condensation. Without ventilation, moisture in the air can cause condensation, leading to mould growth on walls. That can cause damage to the interior of the home.

Keeping Energy Usage Under Control

During the wintertime, it is normal for energy bills to increase over the winter months. However, that does not mean you cannot find ways of reducing your energy usage during winter.

Windows at home can be a great energy saver. If you live in a house with single glazed windows, consider upgrading to A+ rated double glazed windows. That can potentially save you a lot of money on your monthly electricity bill.

Prepare The Outside Of Your Home

With winter can come with a lot of extreme weather to your home. So is having the outside of your property prepared for what nature brings is a great idea.

Clean out downpipes and gutters.

Do a check on roof tiles. Make sure any leaks are repaired now before winter sets in.

Check the outside of all doors and windows for damages that may need repairing.

Why be cold this winter? Prepare your house so that you can stay warm throughout the cold months. Take some simple steps to increase your homes energy efficiency.
