Does My House Require A Fresh Coat Of Paint Outside?

Adding A Fresh Coat Of Paint To My Exterior Walls

With spring upon us, it is an ideal time to consider a new coat of paint on the exterior of your property. Painting the whole of your exterior walls or even just sections can make it look like a new home. Sadly, many homeowners have problems with deciding on what is the best route with painting their homes. One option is to hire a professional painter to do the job. But if you have a budget to work to, it may not be an option. So if this is the case, we have gathered a few tips to help you out. These tips should help to make the process of painting your home as easy as possible.

Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Paint Performance

Firstly, it is necessary to plan before painting the outside of your house. The best time of year to paint is in late spring or early summertime when there is less chance of it raining. Furthermore, the warmer climate will give the paint more opportunity to dry without any issues. However, if it is too humid, wait for the walls to dry before you start painting. Secondly, prep the walls. So before you start with the painting, get rid of loose dirt and paint on the walls. You can do this by scrubbing them with a toughened brush or try a pressure washer. Once the walls are clear from dirt and excess chipped paint, start sanding the walls down to give them a good finish. Check over the exterior wall to ensure it ready to start painting, making sure all the dirty surfaces are now clean.

Reaching New Heights

You may find that you need to paint high areas of the wall that are out of reach. So if you find that you keep stretching, you may cause yourself an injury. Do you have a ladder? If the answer is no, get yourself a ladder to reach those hard to reach areas. However, if you feel unsure about getting on a set of ladders, you could ask someone to foot the ladders for you or ask a friend or family member to paint those areas that you cannot reach.

A World Of Colours

When choosing the right colour for your exterior walls, you can always count on calming colours. For example, a deep moody grey or a sandy stone, depending on the property. But with exterior paint, it is always best to draw from the natural colours of the materials used to build the house. If you’re looking for the ideal balance of strength and style, grey is defining the on-trend colour at the moment.
