What Is Window Condensation?

Condensation on the inside of your windows can be an unpleasant sight. In some cases, condensation may cause damage to your home. One particular type of window that is most affected by condensation is the old fashioned untreated wood windows. When exposed to high levels of condensation, older untreated wooden windows may rot. Condensation may also lead to damage to your walls and inside plaster. You may notice that the condensation getting into your home, and is producing a considerable amount of moisture in the air. 

Why Does Window Condensation Occur?

Window condensation happens when moisture forms on windows. Condensation usually occurs when the warm air from your home meets the outside cold air. Then the air condenses on your cold windows, producing tiny water droplets. Condensation build-up on the outside of the window is okay and shows that your windows are working correctly. However, if you get condensation between the glass panes or on the inside of your windows isn’t good. And this could be a sign that your windows need replacing or attending to.

Reduce Condensation On Your Windows

Open Your Windows For Ventilation.

Opening windows for up to 20 minutes a day may help to reduce moisture in the air. It allows the moist air to escape your home and provide you with fresh air. Furthermore, helping to prevent the build-up of condensation on your windows and walls.

Use A Extractor Fan

Bathrooms and kitchens can create a lot of moisture, usually caused by hot showers, baths and cooking in the kitchen. One of the best ways to combat excess condensation is to install an extractor fan. An extractor fan on the bathroom or kitchen wall can help remove moisture in the air and reduce condensation on windows and walls. 

Dry Clothes Outdoors

Drying clothes in the home can release a large amount of water vapour into the air, causing condensation. You will notice the condensation appear on the inside of your windows and sometimes on your walls. Over time, the execess moisture could cause damage to your property. Best practice is to dry your washing outdoors to help prevent the build-up of condensation. However, we know that this is not always possible due to the UK’s unpredictable weather. Another way to dry your clothes indoors is to hang them on a maiden and open your windows, helping to prevent build up of moisture in the air.

Replacement Glass

Buy A Dehumidifier

Dehumidifiers work by reducing and removing the moisture from the air inside your property. Buying a quality dehumidifier can be costly, however, if you shop around you can find some for a reasonable price. Some models of dehumidifiers will need switching on and off. While other models have automatic timers that monitor your home’s humidity levels.
