How To Paint Wooden Window Frames

A Quick Guide To Painting Wooden Window Frames.

Painting window frames are something that we don’t have to do too often. However, over years the paint begins to wear and requires a fresh coat of paint. Or you wish to give the home a fresher look with a new colour for the window frames and trims then it may be time to start painting.

Here are 5 tips to help you paint your Wooden Window Frames.

Remove Hardware And Handles Before You Paint

To prevent getting paint on handles and other hardware take time to remove everything from the window that you do not want to paint. You can even give them a polish, to make your windows look more attractive.

Use A Good Paint Brush

Nowadays when painting larger areas we tend to use a roller because it helps to get the job done quicker and prevents brush strokes. However, because window frames are so narrow it is always best to use a good quality paint brush which will allow better control. To create a similar look to what a roller provides simply dab the edge of the brush against the window frame.

Correct Any Mistakes Straight Away

If you make any mistakes you can simply take care of them using a good quality window cleaner to spray over the area. Wipe down using a dry cloth as soon as you have made a mistake. Waiting to clean up after completing the painting will make the task much harder. It should slightly overlap the window, but make sure it’s in a straight line. If it dries on the window use a razor blade to scrape away any excess paint.

Preparation Is Everything Before You Paint

No matter the choice of paint or colour. It is always best to use a primer before carrying out any painting. If you have a wooden window frame then it would be best to sand down to a smooth surface before any primer or paint. This will not take much time to do and the end result will look very professional.

Take Your Time When Painting

A rushed job will always show. Do not start the task of painting the window frames if you do not have the time to do so. You would need to start as early as you can as it can take hours to dry. You wouldn’t want to leave your windows unlocked at night. Plan ahead before you start, take your time and make sure you start early.
