Conservatory: Should You Build Your Own?

February 14, 2023admin

A conservatory can be considered the heart of the home.

People choose to build a conservatory as a cost-effective option when needing to add space or value to the home. They can be used as a sunroom, a lounge or a dining room.

Hiring Professionals

At St Helens Windows, we can help you to design and build the brick conservatory of your dreams. Get in touch with us today to start adding space and value to your home. Click here to see more.

Build Yourself

If you are considering building your conservatory yourself, you might find this difficult. There will be minimal labour costs involved, but the work may not be up to scratch if it’s your first time.

Make sure the measurements are correct, and that you have the correct tools to get to work. Alternatively, you may be able to purchase a flat-pack conservatory.

It is important to note that there are regulations in place for the sizing of conservatories. It cannot be taller than your home’s roof, and cannot be deeper than 3 or 4 meters, depending on the style of your house.

Common Conservatory Styles

We can provide a conservatory porch, conservatories for bungalows, or glass lean-to’s. Conservatories are available in Victorian or Edwardian designs, which differ in size and style. They are also available in a variety of colours to either match your current home or stand out from the crowd.

You can opt for a polycarbonate roof or a glass style instead. A glass style may be considered more stylish and will allow for more light.

Flooring is also important to consider. It should be hard-wearing, yet easy to clean and inexpensive.

Other Factors To Consider

Whether you are building your own conservatory or you are considering hiring a professional, you will need to consider the costs involved, the time it will take to build and complete and the look you are going for. We also have some orangery ideas for you to consider.
